Easy to Make Meat Sauce with Sausages
Ingredients:
- 12 tablespoons olive oil – divided in half
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 pound of ground pork
- 6 Italian Rope Sausage Links (Sweet, Hot or Flavored)
- 2 cups of diced Spanish Onions
- 14.5oz can of Hunts Diced Tomatoes
- 15oz can tomato sauce
- 6oz can tomato paste
- 6 bay leaves
- ½ teaspoon salt (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 3 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 2 teaspoons granulated onion
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ to ½ cup of grated parmesan cheese
Directions:
Pre-heat 6 tablespoons of olive oil on a medium heat, in a skillet large enough to fit all of the ingredients with a cover. Then add the ground pork and brown (uncovered). After the ground pork is nicely browned, drain the fat & place on the side to be used later.
Wipe out the skillet and put the skillet back on a low heat with 6 tablespoons of olive oil. Place the sausages into the skillet, cover and brown, turning frequently. Cook for approximately ½ hour until the center of the sausages are no longer pink. Remove the sausages and then wash & dry the skillet so it can be used to finish the sauce.
Pour ¼ cup of olive oil onto the skillet and heat on a medium heat. Add the diced onions and sauté, uncovered, for approximately 8-10 minutes, until lightly golden. Reduce to low heat and stir together the cooked ground pork, the sausages, the tomato paste, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Then add all of the seasonings and finally the parmesan cheese. Cover skillet and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Then uncover and continue to simmer on a low heat for another 5-10 minutes.
This is excellent over any pasta but spaghetti is my favorite with this sauce. Serves 4-6 people.
